The Dynamic Women of the Ms. Senior America Pageant
They prove beauty isn’t skin deep but soul deep.
How These Powerhouse Women Won the Ms. Senior America Pageant
Dear Friends,
When I heard about the Ms. Senior America Pageant, I loved the idea of women over 60 showing off their talents and strutting their stuff across a vast Atlantic City stage. Although I had never considered participating in a pageant, I contemplated entering it.
After learning about the months of preparation involved, I didn’t sign up. Still, I got to interview the women who claimed the crown these past two years, and learn how they bring their grace, talent, and joy to events nationwide. As I’ve written about in my other stories about older women, I was moved by how these pageants bring the contestants close, with the women cheering one another on. They also take their commitment to public service seriously, using their platforms to spread essential messages about topics including breast cancer screenings.
I hope you enjoy this piece, which was just published in AARP’s The Ethel, and that you’ll leave a comment in the magazine’s comments section.
All the best,
Laura

I am surprised this still exists--especially in this time of ageism revival along with other “isms.” So, it’s people like you who help keep projects like this alive. That should give you an edge--maybe at Ms. Congeniality or Ms. Senior Support--something like that. If there is anything I can do for you--with letters of support as an example--in next year’s contest, let me know.
Very best,
Your longtime writing associate,
Carolyn Howard-Johnson
